Each month, we'll be bringing you a new technique to try. We'll also have several samples for you to see! Look to the bottom of this page for more samples.
Hope you're inspired!
One of the greatest ways to use up all those paper scraps you've collected is to make beautiful serendipity squares! Serendipity means throwing a bunch of scraps and oddball shapes together and creating something new. Stips, punched art etc….everything goes here!
SUPPLIES:
Lots of strips of paper, co-ordinating colours of punched art, stazon pad, smaller stamps and a background piece of cardstock in a neutral colour.
METHOD:
- Find a neutral background to begin with.
- Go through your scraps and find an assortment with different patterns that compliment each other.
- Tear or cut into strips or chunks small enough to fit onto your background piece.
- Make punched out shapes, long strips, bold chunks etc. Anything goes.
- Have your Black Stazon Pad ready for a wee bit of stamping! I always stamp on top of my Serendipity Collage.
- Randomly place your larger pieces on your background. Follow on with other layers and pieces getting smaller until your last layers (the smallest ones) are on.
- Once you are satisfied with the coverage, ink your stamp and sporadically stamp the image over the top.
- Stamp some images off the edge of your page. You need to stamp a lot on your background because once you cut it up, it’s an entirely different look. You might think it looks too messy but once it’s cut up, it changes completely!
- Now you have everything glued down, you’re ready to cut into squares. Do this by marking a grid on the back of your background piece and then cut it into equal sizes squares. Usually about 1.5” squares work the best.
- Arrange these till your heart’s delight. They can be matted, layered or used as corners etc. All will look fabulous! Try them on scrapbooks too. See one of the last examples on this page for the Scrapbook Layout!
